Rocking A Ranch, located in scenic Highland County, Virginia, is owned and operated by clinician Mike Armstrong, his wife Georgeanne, son Casey, and daughter Cody, who all ride and work on the ranch. The 1,000 acre ranch raises cattle; breeds, trains and sells ranch-bred horses, along with starting outside horses; and provides workshops. All training is done by utilizing basic Horsemanship Skills with the support of the round pen. We want to find Control through proper rein and leg aids to eventually develop communication and balance between horse and rider. We also understand that Problems are unique and each circumstance is addressed on a one-on-one basis at one's own pace. The Rocking A Ranch starts with basic ground control to develop respect for your horse and it for you.
Mike Armstrong is a trainer with over 35 years of experience, including work as a clinician for the last 15 years. He has used the round pen for the last 25 years, after his first encounter with Ray Hunt. Mike provides these workshops in the hope that clients can take home a little more understanding of the round pen, horse behavior, discipline, and trust. Like any program, it takes time and patience to develop productive, meaningful and working relationships. There are "NO QUICK FIXES" - only a commitment for a specific goal regardless of time required.
